Terms of Service
Last updated: July 3, 2026
Welcome to Hunch. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Hunch website and services (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
1. What Hunch is (and isn't)
Hunch is a private, social prediction game for life events — births, weddings, moves, graduations, and similar milestones. A host creates an event, invites people they know, and everyone makes picks on questions the host writes and resolves.
Hunch is not a gambling service, a betting exchange, a sweepstakes, a lottery, or a regulated prediction market. Winning on Hunch earns points and bragging rights. Hunch never pays winnings of any kind, and points have no cash value and cannot be redeemed, transferred, or sold.
2. Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. By creating an account you represent that you are 18 or older and that the information you provide is accurate. You are responsible for activity on your account and for keeping your password secure.
3. Private events only
Events are private and invite-only. Hosts agree to invite only people they personally know — friends, family, or close colleagues — and not to share invite links publicly, promote events to strangers, or use the Service to run games for the general public.
4. Fees
Hosts pay a one-time event activation fee, shown at checkout, to open an event to players. This fee pays for the Service itself — hosting, invites, scoring, and the scorecard. It is flat and does not depend on how many people join, whether money features are used, or how much anyone pledges. The activation fee is processed by Stripe. Except where required by law, fees are non-refundable once an event is activated.
5. House-rules pools
Hosts may enable an optional "house rules" (cash) mode in which players record honor-system pledges and the group settles up entirely outside the Service, following instructions written by the host. Each resolved question's pool splits a guest-of-honor share and the remainder among players who pledged and got it right, in proportion to their pledges.
For house-rules pools, Hunch provides record-keeping and arithmetic only. Hunch never collects, holds, transfers, or distributes pool money; is not a party to any arrangement between participants; does not guarantee that anyone pays or gets paid; and takes no fee, cut, or percentage of any pool. Pledges recorded on the Service are not enforceable obligations to Hunch.
Hosts who enable house-rules mode are solely responsible for their pool, including compliance with the laws of their state and the states of their participants. Hosts must confirm at activation that participants are personal friends or family, that the host takes no cut or profit, that the event is private, and that all participants are 18 or older. Hunch may restrict or disable house-rules mode at any time.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Service for any commercial gambling operation, or charge others to participate in your event beyond sharing costs the group has agreed to;
- take a cut, rake, fee, or profit from anything event participants contribute;
- share invite links publicly or solicit participation from people you don't personally know;
- misrepresent your age or identity;
- use the Service where doing so would violate applicable law;
- interfere with the Service or access it by automated means.
Hunch may suspend or terminate accounts and events that violate these Terms.
7. Payment processing
The host activation fee is processed by Stripe. Hunch does not process participant gift or pledge payments and does not store card numbers.
8. Content and outcomes
Hosts write their own questions and decide outcomes. Hunch does not verify answers and is not responsible for disputes about how a question was worded, resolved, or scored — those are between you and your host. Hosts should keep questions in good taste and about events their group is celebrating together.
9. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Hunch and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any dispute among event participants, including any failure to settle a house-rules pool. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.
11. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll post the updated Terms here with a new "last updated" date. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept them.
12. Contact
